Here is how we enter our BOMs.
Inserting SolidWorks Table BOM
Notes of interest: Do not use Excel based BOM’s. For drawings that have Excel based BOM’s, must be deleted from within the tree on all sheets before placing a SolidWorks Table BOM. When splitting the SolidWorks Table BOM each table becomes its own table. You can delete each table or you can delete the whole table in the tree. To move the table RMC (Right Mouse Click) the SolidWorks Table BOM. RMC (Right Mouse Click) on the BOM and use move. The standard SolidWorks BOM is: bom. The standard zero item & zero quantity SolidWorks BOM is: bom_Schematic. Remember to “Follow assembly order” and link all views to BOM.
1. LMC (Left Mouse Click) on assembly view.
2. Click Insert, Tables, Bill of Materials.
3. Pick bom for Table Template.
4. Check Table Anchor “Attach to anchor”.
5. BOM Type Top level only.
6. Configurations check Default.
7. Part Configuration Grouping check “Display as one item number” and “Display all configurations of same part as one item”.
8. Keep Missing Items is unchecked.
9. Zero Quantity Display “Quantity of zero “0”.
10. Item Numbers Start at: 1 and Increment: 1. Click OK.
11. Now make sure you have “Follow assembly order” is checked, by RMC (Right Mouse Click) on the BOM.
12. RMC (Right Mouse Click) on the row just below the D in zone D1, usually it will be item 30. Click “Split” then “Horizontal Above”.
13. Move the split BOM and drag it to the left of the BOM above the title block.
14. Now do the same thing again until the BOM is correct.
15. When Splitting BOM on sheet 2, you can split the BOM at above 90. Delete table 1 thru 90. Then attach to anchor, using “Table Properties”.
