SolidWorks to AutoCAD 1

As a contract engineer, I've seen a lot of goofy things - but not this one... I need to take a bunch of SolidWorks models and convert them to AutoCAD (2000) drawings. I've gone the other way but not backwards. Any ideas? Is converting the SLDDRW file to a DXF the best option? Any help will be appreciated.

A lot of people/companies do it. It all depends why it is being done.

I would use eDrawing or PDF if it is for archive purpose only.

If it is for updating in Acad, I think it is crazy. Unless you are careful, scaling can be a problem.

I assume you mean SW Drawings to ACAD Drawings?

I would try CBL's and Scott's advice first.
Yes, you can open a SW dwg and "save as" DXF or DWG.

Like Chris sez, you can save the SW drawing as a dwg, and then you can go into Autocad and save it as an R14 or R13 if you have some customers that are really in the dark ages.

Create your drawings in SolidWorks, then convert them to .dwg. I've been doing this with a customer for the past few months. Works with no problems.

The other option is export your model as an .acis (AutoCAD native format), .stl, or .igs and import into AutoCAD. Then create your drawings in AutoCAD.

Do you want the SW DRAWINGS and convert them to ACAD Drawings, or do you want the MODEL and want it in as an ACIS MODEL for ACAD?
Actually, it doesn't matter because Docexport from Lenny's website does it all. If you want the drawings, then you simply pick the ones from a list, and they are all exported.

Also, check into the custom mapping setups. If they have existing ways they like things, layers of certain colors, certain entities on certain layers, etc. I'm the lone SW user in an ALL acad environment, and without close insepection they can't tell the difference between my converted files and native files. I have to continue this way for some time. Using Acad 2006 is killin' me.

If you use certain fonts in SW, then in the save-as dialog (after you pick .dwg format) pick options (export options) and change the font to "true type". This has saved us 20 mins per exported dwg. (no longer having to "touch up" the drawing.)
