This tip might work for you if:
- you like the SolidWorks Search function
- you have a lot of models to index
- you get annoyed by the stain the WDS indexing service puts on your system at times you need the performance for other tasks
- you have a laptop and don't want WDS to drain your battery

This tip creates 2 buttons, a start button and a stop button, right wherever you like them...

1. Create a new shortcut
2. In the location box enter: net start "windows search"
3. Save the shortcut
4. Rightclick the shortcut and select properties
5. Change the 'Run: ' box to 'Minimized'
6. Change the icon to your preference
7. Create a second copy of the shortcut
8. Open it's properties like before
9. Change the 'start' to 'stop' in the 'Target' box

You need to have admin rights to run these shortcuts, if you have a regular account you can have it run under admin privileges, look in the properties of the shortcuts.

This way you can temporarily disable any form of indexing and restart it whenever you feel like. Indexing will still start after every reboot.

I zipped my 2 shortcuts, just unzip and place them on your desktop, start menu or quick launch (I like them on my quick launch area).

They can be downloaded here.
