Hi everyone

Can someone tell me the difference between SW Premium 2009 SP0.0 and these versions, SW Premium SP2.0 and SP4.0. Do they come with extra stuff?

thanks

SPs come with bug fixes, and sometimes new bugs, which is why there's more than one.
I'm still at 2009.0, because my VAR has not asserted that any of the bugs I complain about have been fixed, and installing a SP always costs me at least a day.

SP = Service Packs = Patches and Fixes for bugs or regressions.

Sometimes an SP will include new functionality, but not often.

"SP" is a service pack. They are updates to fix bugs and add/remove functions, etc. They will still be the same 2009 version.
You need a subscription with your VAR to download these updates.

The short answer to your second question is no. "SP" refers to a service pack update. Service packs are primarily bug fixes, but every now and then, a function will be added or modified if there is enough demand from customers. To see exactly what was changed in a particular SP, log into the SolidWorks Customer Portal and click on "Fixed SPR's."

installing a SP always costs me at least a day[/q]
[shocked] Why?

I just updated from SP3 to SP4.1 at home and work. Both took less than 1.5hrs.

A full uninstall and reinstall should only take about 2.5hrs or less.

Thanks everyone for the quick replies. I think I'm going to stay with SP0 for the time being, because I've had no crashes or other problems with it.

thanks again

YMMV. I've never had a SW update go smoothly.

Even if it did, I don't have 1.5 hrs to spare.

SW2009 came with a bug that meant drawing views sometimes didnt update properly after model changes. It wasnt fixed until SP2.1

If you are still on SP0 your drawings could have errors.

You should consider updating and checking all your drawings for errors.

Mike ... most of the 1.5 hrs was downloading the SP. The actual install took less than 30 minutes, and once the install was told what to install, human intervention was unnecessary. It could be done during lunch.

Assuming you have time for lunch of course. [smile]

Good news, sort of: I have a meeting in the morning that should allow time for an update. ... or two.

Well, nothing caught fire yet.
The meeting lasted three hours, which is about 2:59 longer than it should have, so SW had plenty of time to do its thing. Then I clicked on "Read What's New", and I'm up to page 21 of 178, and it's still not really clear what's new in 2009.4.1.

Lemme try firing up SW:

Well, I haven't tried a drawing yet, but the modeler is working no worse than usual.

Mike,

I believe the "What's New" is for SWX09, not for SP4.X.

That is correct. If you want to see what was 'fixed' by SP4.1 (and other SPs) go to the Download section and select the Fixed SPR's link.

That depends on the SW package and add-ins you are updating, and whether you download a full install for use on other computers, or just the patches required for the local computer.

They normally range from 250MB to 2+GB

2009 SP2.1 made changes to Move Face feature adding group selection shortcuts as a context toolbar similar to Fillet Xpert option added in 2008. After making a selection you'll see a context toolbar show up with green shaded icons.

This shortens the time it takes to select all faces you need or the invert selection method prior to feature icon.

SP3.0 added support for translation of Pro/E models created in Wildfire 4.0 which was not possible in earlier SPs. Circuit Works was also added in at a SP3.0 level
