SolidWorks drawing break problem

I have just experienced something new with the break command in SW drawing. I have a rod that is too long for the page and used break. The indicator showing curve zig-zag etc. is the correct size. When I click and finish the curve triples in size. I can drag the curve to increase of decrease the cut out width and the ghost symbol is the correct size, but returns to triple when I release.

I have saved into the PDM vault and pulled it back with the problem still there. I checked a different computer by making a model and breaking the drawing. The break was the correct size. I pulled in my drawing and the break was the large size.

I am in SW2009, SP3.0, 64 bit computer.

Tools--Options--Document Properties--Detailing--View breaks lines--Extension.

just didn't understand what it was refering to.
