hi all,

I am searching everywhere on the internet about this problem but nothing could solve it, even this link, (I know some of you will search on google and post it here :D )

after i install solidworks 2009 sp0, when i click the icon on desktop nothing happens, moreover when i try to open solidworks from its directory, I get this error message as follows;

This application has failed to start because its side-by-side configuration is incorrect. Please see the application event log or use the command-line sxstrace.exe tool for more detail.

well i tried to change the permissions on the Manifests folder but in my pc all is faded out cannot be changed :(

Try disableling UAC first (lowest level) when installing.
Reenable then after.

Ensure you have installed maximum of prereq (Visual Studio,...) from the DVD (32bits and 64bits if necessary).

thanks, i will try when i arrive home to disable UAC(actually I dont know what it is but i ll search on google)

another thing is my windows is x64 although solidworks version that I try to install is x32, would that be the reason of the problem?

The thing here I don't understand is windows 7 is not supported by SW09... I do understand trying to make it work, but if you can't then maybe that is why its not supported?

I know its not supported officially bu there are so many people who use it without any doubt.

the reason that I didnt install x64 version is, I dont have it, I was using x32 on my ex windows xp sp3 system

You don't have the install discs for 2009?
If you have current subscription you can download the x64 version.

I cant download, cuz I dont have that fast ?nternet connection unfortunatelyy

UAC is User Account Control. It ask for some privileges to install the software properly. If the installer don't commit the windows 7 demanded behavior, some parts of the installation may failed (where to store some files, ...). As Solidworks 2009 installer was mainly designed for Vista, some issues may appear. By disabling UAC during installation, you avoid that.

Prereq is important too.

I don't know if it is possible to install Solidworks32 on a 64 system. May be not.
Install Solidworks 2009 x64 on Windows 7 x64 is possible. I managed to do so.

I tried to close UAC settings while i install, but didnt work same problem...

Are you the Administrator of the computer?
Do you have an Anti-Virus running?
Do you have legit copies of Win 7 and SW2009?

UAC should be disabled before installing SW.

yes I am the administrator
No antivirus installed on the system
I have legal copies..

Its driving me crazy :) I have a project to make analysis on it till saturday, but I cant work on it and I dont want to go back to win xp just for this problem :S

btw I closed the UAC before clean setup

What is the description of the error in the application log of event viewer where source is SideBySide?

Accessible from control panel or %windir%\system32\compmgmt.msc

it says

Activation context generation failed for "G:\Engineering software\solidworks\sldworks.exe". Dependent Assembly Microsoft.VC80.OpenMP,processorArchitecture="x86",publicKeyToken="1fc8b3b9a1e18e3b",type="win32",version="8.0.50727.762" could not be found. Please use sxstrace.exe for detailed diagnosis.

It looks like you need the particular Visual C++ runtime for that version of SolidWorks. As mentioned above it should be somewhere on the DVD. If not I would try:

Microsoft Visual C++ 2008 SP1 Redistributable Package (x86)

first and if that does not fix it then:
Microsoft Visual C++ 2008 Redistributable Package (x86)

Eric

As EEnd, there is an issue with VC++ redist

Try reinstall vcredist_x64.exe and vcredist_x86.exe
\prereqs\VCRedist on the DVD

Both are required for 64bits system not only the vcredist_x64.exe
