SOLID VIRTUAL SHARPS 1

Question (Solidworks 2007).

I am putting virtual sharps (DOTS) on a drawing (no problem), question is, is there a setting to place the dots in a completely filled mode, vs just outline circle?

Tools > Options > Document Properties > Virtual Sharps has options for the five styles available.

Thanks, but the dots do not show as FILLED, anyway to change that? I see the Plus, Star, Witness, Dot and None, I would just like the DOT to be filled not outlined. Something the Engr manager here has his heart set on seeing.

You can't fill a dot its just a point. You would have to create something into a solid if you want that, but it defeats the purpose of having a "Virtual Sharp" as its suppose to indicate "Virtual". You might just try creating a sphere on the point, but the end result will make the file larger.

The Eng Mgr is nit-picking. It's more work than needed.
I would slet him know the software does not do it.
On the dwg you can add a circle that is shaded to the virtual sharp.

Thanks all, I didn't think so, I just wanted to make sure. I believe he saw it on an old AUTOCAD drawing and wants to see the same.

designmr, I agree. The drawing is where such a reference belongs, not the model.

Although Scott is right, you cannot fill a point and the circle is not selectable, if you want to go through the extra work for your manager, you can sketch a selectable circle in the drawing and fill it with "insert/annotations/area hatch/fill". The intersection point is selectable when you draw the circle. You may want to start with the "none" selection in virtual sharps so you don't get a double line circle.

Perhaps you could politely suggest he go back to an ACAD using company.

Approach the manager with management-babble. Managers don't like "No". They do get giddy about "alternatives" and "options" (especially the company stock bonus kind).

Print samples of each of the different kinds of sharps, and have him pick one.

If manager still insists on filled circles, give him an estimate of man-hours wasted per drawing to do this. Don't forget time wasted on training, maintaining, and adjusting drawings done by those who just don't get it.

Honesty may be the best policy, but insanity is a better defense.
