Hi
I am having a bit of trouble setting up an Opto22 DC60S5.

I simple want the relay to ground/connect a line(5V), when 12V is delivered to it.

The problem is I have assumed this to be simple, but something is wrong.

The specs are an input current of 3-32V and are rated at 5amp,the have an internal resistor of 1000ohms and do not need a diode.

I am using 2 12V 7ah(4amp) batteries to test the SSR.

The relay has 4 pin 1+,2,+3,4.

I have 1+ and 2 inline with 12 volt line that will turn on a light when current is flowing (so i can see if it is switching).

At pin 4,3+ (control as labeled on the relay)I momentarily apply 12 V.

Problem is applying 12V does nothing and it also appears that the connection between pin 1 and 2 is connected as the light comes on before i even apply 12V.

I really need some help here as this is the second brand new one I have taken out of the packet, and I cannot find a simple diagram for this use anywhere?

Cheers

You have not said anything about what polarity you apply. You shall connect pin 2 to negative pole on battery lamp from positive pole of battery and then lamp to 1+ on SSR.

If you connect other way, the internal free-wheeling diode will conduct and keep lamp lit. Regardless of control input. It isn't that simple? Is it?

Hi

I am sorry but I am finding your reply hard to understand.

I have
pin 2 connected to battery negative

Battery positive connected to light positive

light negative connected to 1+

control ground to 3+
control 12v to 4

I get nothing...
and if I reverse the light around the other way i get nothing

Do you have a simple diagram ??
I cannot find one on the net.

cheers

Polarity matters.
Try checking the polarity of both input and output with a DMM.
Try using a load (light bulb) with a greater current draw.
Reversing the lamp will do nothing (unless it is an LED). You may have to interchange the leads on either the input of the relay, the output of the relay or both.
Add a comma after "battery" in Gunnar's post.
respectfully

Thanks. The "," is important.

Still problems?

If you haven't fried it, try this:

Thanks
The relay was burnt out, your advice was good.
cheers
