I have a strange problem on my stationary pc, it installs fine ,but after enter my academic license and trying to start the software it just shuts down after the welcome screen appears with no message I can see.
I am running windows xp pro and solid edge V17 please let me know what to check.
On my laptop everthing works fine.

Hi,

the file permissions may be the cause for this. When it starts
with admin rights then you should check. I've heard from
one customer that granting the user (local) admin rights
solved such a problem (CPU 100%, crashes a.s.o)

I created a account and logged in as a user with restricted rights and it started thank you for the tip.
I must say its a very strange stupid problem though.

Very strange if i logg in as a restricted user solid edge opens but crashes as soon as i try to open or create a new part.
DO you know what might be the problem?

Hi,

There might be a registry problem with that user. What happens if you create a new administrator account and start Solid Edge ?

If everything's fine with the new account, I would recommend either :

1) exporting the software/unigraphics hkeycurrent_user key (as a backup) and then deleting it in regedit. If it fixes your pb, reselect your options in SE. If the problem is still there, double-click the reg file to rebuild your registry key.

2) uninstalling SE, running SEcleanupall.exe (on the CD) and reinstalling. (NB: make sure you backup the files you might have modified in Program files\Solid Edge like draftlist.txt,normal.dft,...)

Also, in any case, I would update my graphics card driver.
