Solid Edge vs. Solidworks vs. Inventor 1

Solid Edge vs. Soldworks vs. Inventor
I saw that this has been asked before, but I would like to know if anyone has had recent experience comparing the latest versions of these three softwares? And also if anyone uses the MRP system "IFS" with either of these systems and what successes or failures they've experienced.

This may not be a fair post, but, I am a solidWorks user and have just loded the latest beta release for testing. I am very happy with the advancements that SW is implementing. I have however used and evaluated Solidedge and inventor. SolidEdge has a great program and I think that it is very competitive with SW. Inventor has yet to impress me. I think Autodesk (like Kodak) dominated the market and industry for so long that they became comfortable with their position. Then came along Pro-E, way expensive, no threat to Autodesk. Then came along SW and SE and all of a sudden Autodesk was back on their heels to combat the market moving away. What I am getting at is that I still dont think that Inventor is as intitutive or easy to work with. And I might add that I have been using Autocad since rel 9. Even with the acad experience, the transition to inventor was a pain. the transition to SW and SE were much simpler. Anyway no matter what programs we compare, there will always be some areas that are simpler to use than others. Each program will have its own problems and advantages. Looking at the big picture, I prefer SW and SE over Inventor. Major tossup between SW and SE though, at least for me.

Hi,

Here is another might not fair post... For solid modeling SW or SE are very good. However their import-export capability and compatibility unfotunately are far too limited compared to Inventor. For surface models, consider using Inventor.

I have evaluated SE and used SW and Inventor. I would have to side with everyone else in saying that SE and SW are superior. I, like Jay, have been very impressed with the way SW updates their software. I have done a lot of work in sheetmetal and when I first started w/ SW they were bad but they took suggestions and now they are excellent with sheet metal. I can't point out anything specific but I like SW better than SE. I feel that even the almighty Pro/E (my current software) has a lot of catching up to do because of SW and SE. My $.02,
