Solid Edge 32 Bit vs. 64 bit...and ST4 Info 2

Does anyone know if documents created in 64 bit versions of solid edge are compatible with 32 bit versions (with respect to ST3/4)?
Also, anyone come across minimum system requirements for ST4 yet?
I know windows 7 in a must, but what memory wise and graphics card could I expect.
I have heard 2GB Ram, and at least a 512 graphics card.

Yes they are fully compatible if created with the same SE version.

ST4 will probably not be that much more demanding on the hardware than ST3, but that's me guessing.

2GB of RAM isn't that much these days when you take all the other programs that are running on your computer together with SE into consideration. Besides SE I always have Outlook, Smarteam (PDM), Mozilla Thunderbird (for SE newsgroup), Google Chrome with something like 20 tabs running, Spotify, Skype and a bunch of other small programs open. I would never dream of running all that without at least 4GB.

In my last contract we had ST2 on 32-bit workstations with 4GB ram installed. The assemblies were very large (100K parts at top level) but we coped pretty well.
It was obviously much better when I got an upgrade to a 64-bit with 6GB ram, and this is what I'd recommend. I think it had an FX1800 graphics card in it.

2GB ram isn't really enough unless you are doing simple parts and small assemblies of just a few parts, and its not just the video memory that counts - you should really try to use an approved 'cad' graphics card.

Thanks to both of you.
We have been trying to see where to invest in technology.
We currently have 6 seats, with all users having a "CAD" graphics card between 512KB and 1.5GB.
However, RAM is the area we struggle in, as two users have 3GB, whle everyone else slugs along at 2GB. (we are all 32 bit at this time)
Program wise we are looking at SE, Excel, Outlook, and our production managment tools.
I have seen SE close due to low memory much more often now that we went from V19 to ST3 though.
Assemblys rarely exceede 150 components, but face counts do go up on occasion.

Thanks again, and I will keep your comments in mind when upgrading in the near future.

To be honest I'm not that impressed with ST3 on Windows 7.
I have more crashes here than I ever did in my last contract (and most others before that). I ran out of memory doing a drawing of a 6K part assembly (there was a huge pattern in it).
There always seems to be a large chunk of memory used up, and I can't figure out where.
At the moment I have a small assembly open (<500 parts) and task manager is showing 355MB for SE and 137MB for Internet Explorer with a total of 2.18GB used out of 6GB.
They are the only 2 applications I have open.
I think some of the problem here is down to a poor network.

beach, I saw similar issues during training on ST3 (on Windows 7) last week. It seemed crash happy and ran out of memory on a rendering exercise.
