is it mandatory requirement by NFPA to install fire pumps on solid foundation or it can be installed on floor of pump room? The pumps are supplied with steel frame base plate.
Kindly guide.

Common sense prevails. The guideline is NFPA-20

This might help:

I like the use of pictures for instruction.......

Use of two tons of concrete, rebar etc is .............."GOOD"

Use of threaded rod, bubble gum, coat hanger wire is ...."BAD"

Is there some language in 20

About keeping the pulp from flooding??
Maybe a reason not to set it on the floor?

"4.12* Equipment Protection. -

4.12.1* General Requirements. The fire pump, driver, controller, water supply, and power supply shall be protected against possible interruption of service through damage caused by explosion, fire, FLOOD, earthquake, rodents, insects, windstorm, freezing, vandalism, and other adverse conditions."

NFPA 20 requires that the fire pump base plate be securely attached to a solid foundation in such a way that pump and driver shaft alignment is ensured. Since most pump room floors slope to a floor drain, a level foundation above the floor is typically the way to accomplish this.

NFPA 20-2016 6.4.4 also says 'The foundation shall be sufficiently substantial to form a permanent and rigid support for the base plate.' When you start talking about big diesel-driven pumps, it's possible that the weight of the units, plus vibration when running at full capacity, can exceed the limits of what the floor alone has been designed for.
