I have done a number of hot water systems including some solar, but have never found a good piping schematic reference for multi-tank systems.

I am retrocommissioning a solar system that appears the basic panel and storage sizing is great to but 90% off the utility bill. However, both the building loop and the CW makeup flow into each of the 8 tanks, causing mixing, and thus decrease in temperature supplied to the final LPG top off heater. There is still plenty of BTU in storage, but the heater runs more than it could in an optimized system.

This system had 8 tanks, all manifolded to act as 1 big tank. I envision a partial series arrangement, allowing the hottest water to be delivered to LPG heater, thus requireing no fuel usage most of the time.

Does anyone have schematics of mutlitank solar systems? I have scoured the net, ASHRAE, and well as a number of energy books, all to no avail.

Thanks!
