Can anyone inform me of how to work out the solar flux/energy imparted(?) on a heat collection oil from a parabolic trough solar collector.

energy in = temperature rise times specific heat

Thanks for your reply IRStuff,

Is there any way of working out......... If you have a collector exposed to the sun all day then could you work out how much sun gets to the collection oil (roughly, I know it will depend on the tracking/shape etc.) then losses from the oil and then hence the temperature rise created. (then I can get to use the equation you just sent me to work out the energy)

Look at MIL-STD-810F. There is a best case solar radiation curve. Integrate that curve to get the maximum available solar load. Adjust for latitude and time of year

Thanks for the information, but do you have a better website for the solar radiation curve, I cant find it on the MIL-STD-810F anywhere.

Cheers
