Hlo...if we are traveling on highway, is there any visual observation of land due to which one can estimate rough idea of soil type of that particular area?

If one understands the local geology, the local 'natural' plants types which grow on which soils and has a good feel for Geomorphology, then some good guesses can be made. Always be prepared for major disappointments!!

You would be better off looking at soil survey maps, rather than guessing yourself.
