Socket Weld Fitting Class and Pipe Schedule

I am new here, please go easy on me.
I'll pose the question first. What class fitting to use with sched 160 pipe and system pressure at 3000psi?

I work in a Hot strip mill for a global steel producer. We have a 3000psi water system that is used to penetrate water underneath the scale of the hot strip. I am upgrading a couple strainers that go before our valves. The old strainers have a 3" backwash line that comes off the main pressure header. I want to cut and cap this line, because it is not needed with my new strainers. I am having trouble though with figuring out what class of fitting to use. I know the 3000 class isn't for 3000 psi service, but have read that the 6000 class fittings are rated at that class with the use of sched 160 pipe.

The process fluid temperature might get to 100*F at times. Also, at the point in the system where this 3" line is located the pressure will only very 200-300 psi when the system is up and running.

Thanks BigInch, from that chart I should be fine with using a 6000 class cap then.

You will want to install a Class 6000 socket-weld fitting with SCH 160 pipe if your goal is to have an equivalent rating between the two.

Suggest that you procure and review the set of design rules for socket welded fittings referenced by both ASME B31.1 and B31.3.......... ASME B16.11.

You should be aware of a few things.

- B16.11 recommends Class 9000 fittings for certain pressures/temperatures and materials. ( I don't lnow if you are in this range for this class of fitting

- Personally, I would not close the 3" NPS piping system with a socket welded fitting. I would use a schedule 160 cap.
