I am looking for additional input to a 2004 paper written by J.H.M. Beyers & T.M. Harms & P.A. Sundsbo in the Snow engineering V conference for snow drift around elevated structure. The 2004 paper does not conclude that elevating a structure such as a machine platform supported on stub columns above the roof surface will minimize the effect of snow drift to not overload the existing structure. The report concludes further studies are required.

I am looking for a paper or code guideline that elevating a small structure by say 3 ft above the roof will minimize the effect of snow drift.

Any previous experience on the issue or gudedance would be helpful

The Canadian code has provisions for rooftop obstructions that provides for some additional snow accumulation.
