Smart Relay (SR) initialization control.

I am using one of the Smart Relays made by Idec? I think the LOGO! by Siemens, ? by Schneider, Zelio Telemecanique, etc, etc, are the same. The one I'm using is the TECO.

Generally I am extremely happy with it. One of those "Why have I not been using these for years!" discoveries.

I've read it about 5 times but can't find the answer to my question. Wonder if you have any suggestions.

I have a coil "M1" energized and it holds itself in with a normally open "M1" contact.(Classic start-button/stop-button setup.)

If I cycle the power to the SR when it's done reinitializing the coil is re-energized!!!! This is bad for my application.(Very bad)

Anyone know how to force this behavior back to a "cold" start?

Hi Keith,

Try to deactivate the "Retention" flag in the RS block.

Then run the simulator and use that funny symbol that looks like two mated connectors to break power supply.

An activated output stays active after power-down if the retention is active and it goes to zero if it isn't.

I'm sure not seeing this Gunnar..
No RS block and especially no funny power supply symbol! Are you thinking LOGO! or Allen Bradley 'super duper' PLC?

However, I did stumble over this. Could this be the setting I'm looking for?

I'm commissioning this thing tomorrow and it's no longer in my shop, so I can't actually try this setting since it appears to not be highlighted. I wonder if it needs to be communicating with the Smart Relay?

I was thinking LOGO! - and logic diagram.

The simulator has a "Power Cycling" symbol that allows you to see what happens when power is cut and reapplied.

I have never seen the Idec thing and don't know if it is similar to the LOGO! But most PLC-like devices have a POR (Power On Reset) signal that can be used to start everything in a controlled way. It is usually used to keep the MCR (Master Control relay) open at Power On.

I do not use Ladder, most tasks are better done in logic. There, an RS FF takes the role of a relay with self-hold. These RS blocks have a "Rem" flag. If it is activated, the block stays in the state it had previous to power reset, if it is deactivated, the block always is off after power reset.

Customer insists that Ladder is used? Easy! Do the development in Logic - then convert to ladder. Best of both worlds...

Yes, that M keep may be what you are looking for. Nothing in the manual about it?

Good Morning Keith!

I did some research while you got your beauty-sleep.

The Idec is identical to the LOGO! And the SW seems to be the same. So, just use one of the RS blocks instead of self-holding relay and make sure the retention flag is off (Rem=0).

You can translate from logic diagram to Ladder in a second - and back if needed. There should be a simulator available in the SW. F3 starts simulation mode in LOGO! should be the same in Idec.

I guess I'll just be running with what I have.

I'm going to order another SR and use it to run my aquarium. I'll mess with that one a bunch more.

Try the LOGO! then. Hardware seems to be identical, but SW may be different.

No, MicroMaster is their range of frequency inverters. The LOGO! software is named "LOGO!SoftComfort". I like it.
