Slurries - Flow and instrumentation - Info? 1

Dear Eng-Tipers,

I am looking for information on how to handle slurries in pipes and what kind of instruments are applicable to measure flow of such slurries. Books, papers, magazines, websites, company names?

Ultrasonic/magflows are typical options for flow measurement.
Dependent on the type of slurry, you may also need density and or viscosity measurement.

It all depends on what sort of slurry it is and what you want to do.
For example, China clay slurries of different types may be mass ratio blended (the clays, not the slurries) using magnetic flowmeters for volumetric flow and vibrating element density meters for % solids this gives the mass rate of flow of clay in each stream.
Some other slurries may better use ultrasonic density measurement or gamma density meters.

If you have any details of the slurries you are interested in then I'm sure you will get some better answers.

You may wish to contact GIW as they publish a range of papers on slurries. In addition the book Slurry Transport Using Centrifugal Pumps is a worthwhile investment.

As for instrumentation contact your instrument suppliers in the forst instance.
