Hi all,

I was wondering if you guys might be able to help me find an item. I'm not sure what it is exactly called, so I'll try to describe it as best as I can.

I have a 1" diameter bolt that is connected through a 6" slotted hole. There is room left over in the slotted hole. I wish to stick this "item" between the bolt and the end of the slotted hole to prevent movement. Does anyone know what this item may be called?

Thanks!

Per RCSC, a structural bolt connection with 6" slot is not allowed. If an allowed slot dimension is used, the movement can be fixed after installation by welding or providing a slip critical connection.

Connectegr, a slip critical connection will be provided.

I looked all over this place, but in the end a decision was chosen to use a fabricated steel plug.

Thanks all!

Per RCSC, the maximum long-slot in a structural connection is 1 1/16" x 2 1/2" (for 1" bolt). If the faying surfaces are Class A and the connection is properly designed, movement will be resisted by pretensioning the bolts. Note a plate washer is required to cover the long-slots if in the outstanding ply. RCSC does not allow increased slot lengths or provide information for determining the reduced shear capacity of the connection or reduced slip resistence of the faying surface.

If you really need 6" of adjustment, I suggest using the bolts as an erection aid only and field welding the plates after installation. The welded connection should be design for the entire reaction and appropriate eccentricities.
