On my previous design, construction office prefered stepped spread footing. I am looking for a general information (code reference the best) and recommendations for the future projects. What slope contractor will be comfortable with to pour concrete. Thanks.
With steeper slopes and wide abutments it could be costly to pour it flat. I heard with stepped footings though contractor has problem to proper compact the base, besides it has to pause between segments to prepare the next one.
Go with steps, usually, we're only talking about a height differential of 2 or 3 feet. if you're on rock or a stiff soil it's not a problem to prep the base.
One of the reason's they're stepped has to do with the forming of the wall on top. Maybe a 1:6 for a maximum slope, but keep the top flat. THis is my typical detail...
