Sloping A Manhole Cover?

Sanity check here - you can't slope a manhole cover to match surrounding grade, (barring the use of some fancy proprietary product) correct?
Context - ADA sidewalks. If I'm right or wrong, can someone point me to a standard for reference? I'm not finding anything in our DOT standards.

Does the manhole need to seal watertight? Even if it did...I can recall shimming and grouting to match fairly significant road camber...but it's been more than 20 years since I helped set a manhole cover, so maybe the new standards don't allow grouting. Would explain all the horribly unmatched covers along one of the roads near my house.

In our area the manhole rims typically match roadway slopes. Contractors use the rings and mortar to match grade. I would think that it is limited to fairly flat slopes, 0-4%+/-. If your situation falls in a steeper slope, you may want to contact your local/regional wastewater department for guidance. As to a specific detail/standard, I am not aware of one.

can't you grind off the rim slightly to match the needed slope: I see many more locations where sidewalks and driveways that have settled as much as 2-3 inches have been trimmed smooth. You do make a lot of dust and a modest amount of noise for a little while, but the new high speed angle grinder heads for concrete are very, very fast at removing stone.
