Slip Type Expansion Joint Modelling

I wanted to model some ATS slip type expansion joints. I used to make two runs: the first for the actual displacement and the second to include the axial stiffness. Is the still the proper technique?
 
Refer to Caesar II documentation for modelling techniques. Don't forget pressure end effects.
