Sinkhole In Michigan

See Link. I've been following this since Christmas Eve. It must be very slow moving as the latest news is fours days old.
What amazes me is that the same pipeline had a washout about a dozen years ago. You would think that whatever problem it had it would of been fixed for its entire length after that. I'm also curious on what the cause was (and is). Is it mechanical wear? Bad joints? Hydrogen sulfide damage? That old type Prestressed Concrete Cylinder Pipe (PCCP)?

the breakage is actually in almost the exact same place, so it would have been repaired in 2004.

The news article do not have enough details to understand the issues.

One would have to suspect that the problem is with the construction of the sewer pipes as the problem is not limited to the Detroit area:
