single axle to dual axle 1

Hi,

I am comverting a single axle trailer with a weight capacity of 1700 pounds, into a dual axle trailer. The second axle has a rated weight capacity of 800 pounds. Before I make the conversion I wanted to know whether or not the weight capacities would combine to make a total of 2500 pounds of support.

It depends on how the axles share the load as you move over uneven surfaces, like dropping over kerbs etc.

There are load sharing and non load sharing mechanisms.

If non load sharing, it would also depend on compliance rates.

If the load sharing is via a rocker arm, simple leverage calculations re the pivot point will predict the load share.
