Hello everybody,

I am doing one 3D contact simulation between two bodies. I did my simulation using static general steps with C3D20 elements (i.e. Hex 2nd order). It finished in 28 hours with 1E+14 floating point operations. Then I performed the same simulation using coupled temperature displacement steps with C3D20T elements. For this the simulation time is more than doubled (approximately 65 hours). However, for second model I have not defined any heat flow/boundary condition so that physics of the problem remains same. Only each node has additional DOF (temperature) that's it. So can anybody explain to me why the simulation is so expensive in 2nd case (2E+14 floating point operations)? How can I make it less expensive as that of 1st model?

Any input on this issue would be appreciated,

Thanks in advance,

Nik
