Hi,

We are trying to simulate a hinge mechanism in MSC Nastran, This is how it is modeled.

Two plates are connected with hinge, both the plates modeled with shell element. The hinge is modeled with Cbar elements, and connected to shell elements with rbe2 in all DOf's.

Finally to simulate the hinge mechanism, RBAR elements is used between two rbe2's with one end DOF's as 123456 ( end connected to plate with force application) and other end DOf's as 12356 (X is rotation axis).

we are getting grid point singularity on the grid point connected to RBar element in R1.

Please find attached the bdf file.

Thanks in advance.

Hi Greg,

Its static analysis 101 solution. Please see the bdf file attached in my last post.

The hinge mechanism I am trysing to simulate is a part of a car body (locomotive).

There are two panels which should have relative motion between them as in the case of door hinge, I have shown only a small region of the entire model.

I am trying to get a free rotation alogn the hinge axis between the parts. I have chosen the rbar element as it has option of defining Dof's at both ends.
