Simulate welds in Pro/M?

Hi People,

I'm a new user of Pro/M, but I have used Pro Engineer for several years now. In Pro Engineer I make merge parts of my assemblies en then load them into Pro Mechanica to calculate them. I already found out that I can simulate bolted constructions best by leaving a little bit of open space between them. Now I have the following problem. How do you simulate welded constructions? Do I have to leave open spaces between the welded plates and how are welds representated in a model? And then, is there a way to simulate the change of material properties due to the welding process?

Kind regards,
Merijn

P.S. Sorry for the imperfect english but I just don't use it so much.
