I need a good example of a simple span bridge design. I have not done any bridge design before. I have the asshto manual but it is alittle hard to pull out the things I need to do. My span is 45' and as I said it is a simple span ...with steel beams and concrete deck H-20 loading. Can anyone suggest a good reference?

You can pull bits and pieces from a lot of places...for example I have provided a list of bridge related texts that I found helpful here in the Bridge Engineering FAQ section.

Beyond that I can tell you that you should familiarize yourself with Chapter 3 and Chapter 10, loads and steel design respectively. For this simple configuration you can determine your live load by simply looking in the appendix for the appropriate live load chart. Remember, though, that the loads given are axle loads and need to be halved when doing a wheel-line analysis.

Good Luck
