I am looking for a more accurate calculation of the SIF for a threaded pipe connection. This will be used an B3.3/.1 stress model.

The code SIF default is 2.3, but this seems high for our connection. We designing a geothermal wellhead with an API buttress thread. The well designers consider this thread to be as strong casing but they do have look at moments from the attached piping.

Thanks

Nayyar's book on piping has some pretty detailed sections on SIF.
Another great resource for detailed stress analysis is the book by Peng & Peng (just gotta love those author names)

Owh and maybe ASME STP-PT-73 Nonm. app. B, 5.1.

kevin,

I believe that you should keep in mind that ASME Code SIFs are based on some empirical testing, however ....

They are basically the conservative product of group of engineers at a long and boring meeting

I have looked at BPVC-VII div 3 appendix D. But can this be used for a piping SIF?
