We have run into a situation where several footings were cast too low and now there is not enough thread left for the nuts to have the proper bite. I would really like to avoid extending the base plates and drilliong and epoxing new bolts. Could somebody guide me to information about anchor bolt couplers or welding anchor bolts directly to the base plate.

You should be able to get hexagonal couplers to suit standard bolt sizes. However these are 3-4 diameters long so you might not have enough room to get them in. You might be able to site weld an extension but maintaining weld quality could be a problem.

Are thes bolts required to resist tension loading?
