Does anyone ever cut stainless steel shim stock? I frequently cut .003 to .010 and use 18 ga. crs for support. This works well but the shims don't always peel off so well. I am curious to know any other methods for cutting this delicate material.
Ever thought of getting a sheet of aluminum honeycomb? I used to use this on old Mazaks with pin tables to cut the shim stock and prevent overtravel on the Z-Axis. The good thing about aluminum honeycomb is that parts don't stick to it and it also keeps the material almost flat. I think you can find this at McMaster Carr but you may want to google it.
Try this, lay down a piece of 1/8 hardboard and tape the edges of the shim to keep it from fluttering. May leave a little residue on the shim when the wood burns but this scrapes off easily with a scraper and acetone.
