Shells with surface regions

I am trying to model a thin strip of metal that angled about 45 degrees from horizontal. It is loaded along the top long edge, and is constrained at intervals along the bottom long edge. I am trying to see how the metal bows out at the ares where it is not constrained. I created surface regions in Pro/Mechanica (Wildfire integrated mode) along the bottom edge to define my interval constraint regions. I compressed the two large faces to create my shells. When I try to run the model, I get an error message stating that the constraints applied on the surface regions will be deleted. This has something to do with the surfaces being compressed. I have also tried the problem with edge loads/constraints and have the same problems.

Does anyone have experience with shells and surface regions?

Thanks,
Tony

I tried this, but it worked ok for me. Did you make sure that the surface region split the whole surface?
I guess you could run this model with solids if it continues to be a problem

d3ets - In response to your message:

If the constraints are full (no translation or rotation) the analysis works fine. However when I allow a degree of freedom (in either translation or rotation) I get the message that the constraints will be deleted.

When I created the surface region, I'm pretty sure that I split the whole surface. How do you determine that?

I realize that I can run the problem with solid elements, but shells seem more applicable to the problem.

Thanks,
Tony

Yes - I got the same problem - looks like a bug to me, but the work around seems to be to constrain one of the edges of the surface region with the constraint which has one of the DOF's free. This worked fine for me.

I'll try to constrain the edge of the surface region as you suggested. I thought I had tried that earlier with no luck, but I'll make sure that I apply it more carefully.
