Sheet pile design 1

I want to design a cantiliver sheet pile excavation support system for a foundation. The foundation is 20m diameter and 4m deep, soils are sand for 3m depth and then medium dense clay.

I have a graph that gives me an answer for sheet pile length and section. But can anyone point me towards downloadable freeware or spreadsheet that is available on the internet to give me a check.

This is for a project tender, later if we are awarded the project we will get a more detailed design.

apologies for the late reply, it took a bit of studying before I found that ProSheet is exactly what I was looking for.

Now I have graphs from the Corus Steel Piling Handbook from which I can read directly the sheet pile length and minimum section modulus.

Then I input the soil data into ProSheet and it comes up with a similar result and a few print outs to go in with the tender submission.

The ProSheet program is not the best, but the price is right!

The program uses a triangular earth pressure distribution. However, you can enter other pressure distributions manually after you calculate the pressures at various depths.

I believe that the program also multiplies lateral Boussinesq surcharge pressures by Ka which then gives lower lateral pressure than usually accepted by rail agencies for rigid walls. So, be careful if doing a wall design along a railroad track.

I believe Corus doesn't produce sheetpiles anymore, hence unless you have an old stock you will have to use Hoesch or Arcelormittal products for Europe.

the project was in Thailand. We didn't win the project (which I can't blame entirely on PEinc). The sheet pile sections available in Thailand didn't match either the (old) Corus graph or the selections on Prosheet, so I just selected the nearest similar section.
