I would like to create a drawing template that is set up with a predefined flat pattern view. This way, I could quickly create a 1:1 flat pattern with bend lines and notes turned on.

Is this possible to do without writing a macro, or does someone have a macro that is close enough that they would be willing to share?

Thanks in advance!

The only problem I see with a predefined view of the flat pattern is that the flat pattern configuration is generated when the flat pattern view is created.

In other words, you may need to manually create the flat pattern configuration in the part in order to get the predefined view to work.

I was hoping for this to be a general template not tied to a specific part. That way I could keep using it over and over.

Hello, I am new to the forums and have found some great insight on using SolidWorks more efficiently. I know this is an old post but I am also trying to get flat pattern views to show up in predefined views. I know that the flat pattern configuration is not created until the flat pattern view is created, for whatever reason, so what I am wondering is how someone would go about setting up a macro to do all the tasks to get that predefined view setup as a flat pattern with the bend notes after the part has been dragged onto the sheet. Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks.

You should be able to setup the default flat pattern in your templates. If you are using flange instead of base extrude the built in flat should update with the new part features.

That being said, I've not found a way to insert a blank predefined view into a template yet. I ended up inserting a 1:1 end view in the drawing . I select it and click the flat pattern option.

Yea, there doesn't seem to be a way to put a predefined flat pattern view into a template. The options allow all other views except the flat pattern. This is because the flat pattern configuration isn't created until you manually create it by placing the flat pattern view like is stated in the previous responses. I just wish I knew enough about API and VB to set up a macro to avoid all these steps to get that view created.
