Sheet metail to contain liquid aluminium 2

I am doing R&D work and need to contain 2L of liquid aluminiun at above liquidus temperature 660C in normal room athmosphere.

I need to use sheet matal 1 mm thick rather than refractory material as the container. Good heat condoctor preferrable.

Considering stainless steel or copper.

I am concerned container will be compromised chemechically and mechanically due to sustained elevated temperatures.

Chould I rule out copper or SS and consider something more exotic like inconnel?

At that temperature 304H, 321, or 310 may work for you.

300 series stainless will warp if you need to apply heat to the melt. Cu could work but you may need to support it mechanically. You also could get away with using graphite if you can find someone to machine the container for you.

How about Titanium seems to have almost immunity to liquid Aluminium and while the thermal conductivity is poor for a metal you could compensate by using thinner gauge.

Copper alloys could dissolve pretty quickly; this is partly a effect of purity. I have seen PURE zinc dissolve steel fittings in 5 minutes although the "book" says it will not.
