Trying to rationalize using the top 2 circular ties in a round pier (2 ties within 5" on top of pier (ACI 318-08 7.10.5.6)) to prevent shear breakout of the anchors. I've seen papers explaining strut and tie method (stm) in square piers for shear reinforcement. My questions comes from using the circular ties. I don't think you can use stm using circular ties since the angle would exceed what ACI recommends. Is doesn't seem like a straight beam shear reinforcement analysis, but I'm wondering if I'm missing something.
Really like to hear some thoughts. I've attached a sketch trying to explain what I'm referring to (remember, not an artist)
