As I am not an expert on pumps I would like to know whether there is a relation between the flow at maximum efficiency and the flow, where the pump head is zero. I am referring to centrifugal pumps. Could anybody shed some light on this ?
The slope of centrifugal pump head vs flow curves are somewhat dependent on pump specific speed which is impeller geometry related. There are no general equations relating best efficiency to runout (zero head) head-flow performance to my knowledge, though some manufacturers may have developed such relationships for particular pump designs.Another consideration is the maximum flowrate required at the minimum system resistance condition which may be factored into the design of pumps for a particular application. See vanstoja's 12/26/02 input to thread378-39796 for an earlier discussion of this issue.
I agree with vanstoja and quark.
However you did not really say what you were looking for.
Efficiencies, Head, Curve Geometry, Power, or something we did not think of perhaps?
