Shakedown and incremental collapse

Greetings,

Can anybody suggest the application of shakedown theorem to incremental collapse of structure in real life? Is there any other recommendation to take account of this effect in the design, esp. bridge and other large structure.

A two-span continuous steel beam bridge would be one. I would get the following book if you are really interested in this type of analysis. Shakedown discussion starts on p.145, Autostress Design Method (shakedown based) starts on p.177 and is in AASHTO.
