Hello,

I have a shaft that needs to be fitted into a hole. The hole depth is only 60mm while the shaft is 200mm long. I dont want to tolerance the entire shaft to a g6 fit, but rather just the section that goes to the hole. How would you indicate this in a drawing? I was thinking about just adding a note to a limited length section of the shaft. Would this do the trick?

Model it as if there's a step at the end (which there will be.. a microscopic one) and treat it like any other shaft with different diameters along its length.

Hi, tepa:

You can use "Limited Length or Area Indication" per ASME Y14.5-2009 (see Fig. 1-13 on page 11). Also see Fig. 1-47 and 1-48 for Knurls for press fit.

Best regards,

Alex

Thanks for the help! I modelled it with a step.
