I'm involved in a project in Northeast Florida where it is proposed to design a detention pond with the normal water surface about 2 feet below the water table. It will have a weir at the design normal water level and it is intended to drain all of the water table above the design normal water level to a river. My question is, with the sandy soil will this cause subsidence in the surrounding land and how fast would the ground water velocity need to be to transport fine sands into the pond?
