Hi guys.
I have a small machine and it is powered by stepper motors, but it lacks power.

I want to start using servo motors but the problem is i dont know how to use them. What i want to know is how they work and do all servo motors need a feedback system. Plus how are they controlled, is it by plc?. How much would a servo system cost which has about 100Watts of power? IS there a wesite which describes servo motors in detail?

Thanks guys (sorry if i sound stupid, i haven't studied electricity and electronics in great depth.....yet)

The machine has a threaded shaft on which is used to convert the rotational motion to linear motion. If i can control the rotational position of the motor then i can easily control the linear motion. Obviously stepper motors can do the job, but they lack power.
Will a servo mechanism be a better choice than the stepper motors?

Sounds as though yu may need to "close the loop". Call EAD Motors at 603-742-3330

By definition, all servo systems must have feedback. In the motion control world, that feedback is typically an encoder or sometimes resolver. A servo is not really difficult to use, just as easy as your stepper. You can control a servo via your PLC if you have a motion control card that you can imbed in it. You can also use the more popular integrated drive/controller where the position controller and drive/amp are in the same box.

A servo system is going to cost 30 - 40% more than a stepper system. Typically the cost is going to be in the motor and cables. I would say your looking at ~$2K for a GOOD simple indexing system.

There are many sites out there. You can get some from mine, or there is a nice section on servos.
