Servo Motor Information

Does anyone know of a non-manuafacturer's website for servo motor application information. I am looking for a little free online education that is general and not geared to any one peticular manufacturer's product line.

Some manufacturers publish very valuable information that is not specific to their products, though sometimes the format of the information applies more readily to their products than to others.

gives very good general and specific information on servo motors.
 
What sort of size? radio controlled model? battleship turret? somewhere in between?

The answer is yes. I am very familiar with gearmotors and inverter driven speed control and have used it with everything from 1/3 to 200 HP. I am comfortable looking at applications from an inverter point of view. There have been a couple of projects that I've come across in the past couple of years where the speed and positional requirements were borderline inverter/gearmotor vs. a servo and we ended up shying away from servos due to cost per axis. I have recently come across another application where this is the case again. A rotary index table that could go either way, but I've just been introduced to the Baldor line of servo motors and controllers. This product line cost per axis is relatively close to the same as the inverter/gearmotor option, including positional sensing, etc. This has led me to try to educate myself and get comfortable with the possible applications and features.

You may try the German SEW Eurodrive documentation site. The USA site doesn't have this info (unless they changed it). Got to seweurodrive.de, and chase down the link for "dokumentation". They have wonderful, highly technical PDF files that may be of some use. I was told, however, that the positional accuracy between AC induction motor with inverter drive and servo is neglible, AC induction much less expensive. But servo is for high speed motion.
