I am looking for inspection practice procedures for septic certification in the state of new jersey. It is not feasible or logical to be onsite the entire time a septic is being installed however if there is a failure down the road my name is on the certification. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to provide a fair affordable inspection while protecting the companies interests?

Thanks

Unannounced visits. 5 year warranty by installer. Prequalify installers. Talk to other inspectors in the area. They must be listed somewhere.

Have the installer take pictures and maybe you can have the installer leave it uncovered until you can look at it.

We require the contractor to leave the system uncovered until inspection. The contractor must give us 24hr notice before the installation begins so we can schedule a timely inspection. The plans will dictate what parameters are important. Aerobic treatment units with pump tanks will get different look vs. gravity STE.
