Separating oxygen and carbon from CO2 process 1

Hello,

I am looking for a process or would like to know if there exists a process for separating oxygen and carbon from CO2 which would leave solid carbon/graphite as the biproduct.

The only process that I know comes close to what you would like to do is Nature's very own Photosynthesis, where the CO2 is broken down and used to produce plant food and fiber while releasing Oxygen.

I don't think you'll find anything that'll beat that, but let us know if you know of something or find something.

I doubt you will; CO2 is usually the end of the line as far as chemical processes are concerned - with the exception of methanation.

Thank you for responding. I am currently researching the possibilities of reproducing the photosynthisis process to infact tackle this problem. I am currently working out what type of energy is required at each stage of seperation and reproducing the chemicals at these stages synthetically.
This is the complicated bit.

Any suggestions ?

Your original query is now starting to form some piece-meal basic data. Now we know that you are working on Photosynthesis - as I guessed. However, this is not what you basically asked. There is no process (to my knowledge) that will reduce CO2 down to a gaseous O2 and solid graphite. That is my answer to your query.

Additionally, you now advise you are working out the type of energy required at each stage (how do you know there are different stages?) and also reproducing the chemicals (which, the CO2? the O2 & C?) "synthetically" at each stage. I don't understand what you mean by "reproducing" the chemicals. I've never heard or read of synthetic CO2, O2, or C. Are these the same as the God-given compounds we presently have?

Also, what do you mean by "type" of energy? Do you mean type as in solar, nuclear, heat, work, etc., etc.? Or do you mean quantity of energy? Please explain; maybe someone on the forum can help out.
