A few years ago I designed four "semi-integral" bridges. IMHO, semi-integral is subjective. For these four bridges, they were simply jointless; the deck was cast integrally with the backwall (or end block). The backwall was not connected to the abutment stem. The abutments were designed in the traditional manner. On this project the bridges were constructed in a fill area ~ 30 feet. The client didn't want them designed as true integral structures.
