Dear All,

Can any one help us, how to select a right piling rig based on the RQD %.

Example : i have a soil data, where the RQD value is 85%. Can any help how to find out or select a right capacity piling machine for this application.

To fully answer the question you provide only a bit of the site information. I assume RQD means rock quality designation and the number shows some somewhat weak stuff and tha's all. Your question more should be what capacity or type of piles should I use for this certain kind of load and structure? The driving rig is not something you call for. Leave that up to the contractor. As a mater of fact if you have known loads and structure requirements, unless there is some fact or such as bad site conditions for metal piles, etc. we usually don't even then designate what kind of pile has to be used, but maybe just capacity per pile. Again, perhaps the site is better suited say to auger-cast concrete piles than driven piles, I'd leave that up to the geotech engineer that gave the info on RQD, etc. A short answer: Don't designate type of construction equipment to use.

I agree with OG. Leave the equipment selection to the contractor. If you are worried about it, you can request a wave equation analysis to check if the selected hammer is appropriate for the recommended type of pile and capacities.
