I need some help in selecting a heat transfer fluid for an in-house test facility. The facility will involve a insulated heating tank which would heat up the fluid and maintain a steady buffer for the pump to circulate from. The fluid is pumped into a cooling chamber where it exchanges heat with another fluid (across tubing wall) and is returned to the heating tank.

I have no experience in dealing with heat transfer fluids, but I have some requirements listed below:

- Process temperatures range: 30-500°F
- System: Holding (heating) tank + recirculation pump + cooler unit
- Operation mode: Continuous, non-stop, lasting for up to an year
- Open system (due to the holding tank)

Primary selection criteria would be:

- Personnel safety
- Equipment/fire safety
- Chemical compatibility with common fittings, equipment etc.
- Energy efficiency
- Recyclable?(Whatever that would mean..)

Which vendors/fluids should I consider as my candidates? Please advise.

Syltherm is a silicone fluid that rates well in your areas of concern.
