Hi everyone,
I was caculating a minimum wall thickness for half coupling fitting NPS 11/2, but B16.11-2011 said that "Within these limits, the minimum wall thickness for pipe to be used with a Table 7 Class designated fitting shall be computed based on appropriate size straight seamless pipe of equivalent material as the fitting....... ". How to select the OD as the appropriate size? I had compared the B36.10 and B16.11 for OD based on the NPS found that is different OD. My question is :
Whether is based on B36.10 for the size OD or based on B16.11 for the size OD ?
I do appreciated you response.

Hi Tony

As per my interpretation OD of Coupling shall be as per ASME B16.11 and only thickness shall use form ASME B36.10 of respected Pipe size and SCH.

TonyTao,
You do not get to select the OD of the pipe. You select the NPS (Nominal Pipe Si8ze) and that sets the OD.
= 1-1/2" NPS pipe has an OD of 1.9" All schedules and weights
= Wall thickness & ID varies with Schedule and Weight
= Sch 5 = .005" wall & 1.774" ID
= Sch 10 = .109" wall & 1.682" ID
= Sch 40 = .145" Wall & 1.610" ID
= Sch 80 = .200" Wall & 1.500" ID
= Sch 160 = .281" Wall & 1.338" ID
= XXH = .400 Wall" & 1.100" ID

I hope this is helpful

prognosis: Lead or Lag

The min. T of the coupling cannot be less than the pipe sch of the same size, I believe the corresponding Sch for 1.1/2 couplg is sch is S160
