Hello,

I would like to request input with regards to designing seismic separation joints (or isolation joints) in a building. I have googled and found ACI 224.3R-95. Are there any cross referenced ACI books also available?

The common issues I have encountered are:

a.) Computing for the minimum (and efficient) gap width.
b.) Locating the seismic gaps.
c.) Materials possible to cover the gap and the maximum PSI allowed. ACI 224.3R-95 have identified some.
d.) Are seismic separation joints below grade be eliminated in design but retain the gap above grade.

Thank you and hoping for inputs on the above. I'm an architect by profession and I prefer to have the seismic joints as minimal as possible to save on cost and aesthetic purposes.
